SHIP'S COOK

The Cook must prepare healthy nutritious meals for crew and visitors. He / she must plan menus, and maintain a record of stores onboard. The cook must also arrange to order food and supplies.

The ship’s kitchen is called the galley and the Cook must maintain a clean and sanitary galley at all times.

A Cook may perform the following tasks:

  1. Prepare the crew’s meals and drinks
  2. Clean cabins, lounges and other areas
  3. Distribute clean linen and make beds
  4. Attend to crew’s needs such as laundry, dispatching messages and        answering queries.
  5. Ships’ catering attendants work on passenger and cargo ships.

The work can be physically demanding and involves long periods at sea.
