It is estimated that one-quarter of the world's produce is never eaten because of inefficient transportation systems between the grower and the consumer.

Many products are highly perishable and require special handling to ensure that they arrive at the destination in good condition. Special handling includes proper post-harvest treatment, sanitation, packaging and temperature management.

A wide variety of products are shipped under refrigeration, including:

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Fresh and frozen meats, poultry, and seafood
  • Dairy products and eggs
  • Fresh juices and frozen concentrates
  • Chemicals and biological products
